Empowering Youth Through Sports: NAC’s Commitment to Community Engagement

Introduction: In today’s fast-paced world, where technological advancements and academic pursuits often take center stage, it’s essential to remember the importance of physical activity and community engagement, especially for our youth. At NAC, we recognize the significance of nurturing the next generation and providing them with opportunities to lead, shine, and thrive. That’s why we’re committed to regularly organizing sports events as a means to re-energize our youth and empower them to reach their full potential. Re-Energizing Youth Through Sports: Sports have a unique ability to energize and invigorate individuals of all ages, but they hold particular significance for our youth. Engaging in sports not only promotes physical health and well-being but also fosters valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience. At NAC, we believe in harnessing the power of sports to inspire our youth, instill confidence, and cultivate leadership qualities that will serve them well in all aspects of their lives. Providing a Platform for Young Leaders: Our sports events serve as more than just recreational activities; they provide a platform for our youngsters to step into leadership roles and showcase their talents. Whether it’s organizing a soccer tournament, hosting a basketball competition, or coordinating a track and field meet, our youth are actively involved in every aspect of the event planning and execution process. From team captains to event coordinators, our youngsters are given the opportunity to lead and shine, developing invaluable leadership skills along the way. Fostering Community Engagement: In addition to empowering our youth, our sports events also foster community engagement and solidarity. Families, friends, and neighbors come together to cheer on the athletes, creating a sense of camaraderie and unity that transcends generations. By promoting community involvement and active participation, we strengthen the bonds that tie us together and create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and included. Conclusion: At NAC, we believe that investing in our youth and providing them with opportunities to thrive is essential for building a vibrant and resilient community. Through our commitment to regularly organizing sports events, we aim to re-energize our youth, provide them with a platform to lead and shine, and foster a sense of community engagement and solidarity. By harnessing the power of sports, we empower our youth to reach their full potential and create a brighter future for us all. Join us in our mission to empower the next generation through sports and community engagement. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our youth and build a stronger, more vibrant community for generations to come.

Blood Drive

One of the sacred duties of humans is to think and act for the welfare of all sentient beings. Our ancestors taught us that ‘अयं बन्धुरयं नेति गणना लघुचेिसां उदारचररिानां िु वसुधैव कु टुम्बकं ’, that is ‘Only small men discriminate saying: one is a relative; the other is a stranger. For those who live magnanimously the entire world constitutes but a family.’ While being preoccupied to live for oneself and for the welfare of our own family, we humans must find some time to see beyond this limited periphery. Only with that we find ourselves to be getting into territory to be more complete and can find happiness beyond the sensory pleasure. Some benevolent fellow Nepalese in the USA established Blood Donors of America (BDA) in 2009. There are more than 400 life members of this organization and they are from all across the USA. BDA members regularly organize blood donation events in different cities and motivate fellow Nepalese to do their civic duty towards the society. Nepali American Center (NAC) is aligned with BDA and has organized several community wide blood donation events in Chicago since the last several years. The first community wide blood donation was started on July 21 2013. Even during the Covid19 pandemic, several of its volunteers donated blood in individual manner and supported BDA. NAC February 2024 Kids Corner Update

Nepali American Center (NAC) presents its monthly religious and social program at Radheyshyam Temple on first Saturday of each month since 2006. This monthly ritual of Nepali community in Chicago has now becomes its culture. Each and every Nepali living in Chicago are aware of this monthly event. The program covers deity worship, bhajan-kirtan, Aarati and vegetarian Prasad (launch). The prasad are prepared by a number of families turn by turn each month. During the event, children are also gathered to learn about Nepalese religious, social and cultural values presented to them by NAC volunteers.Every month of February, the Goddess of knowledge, wisdom and science Saraswati is worshipped and prayed to. Each year, children also present Saraswati Bandana, a twelve names slokas (verses) of Goddess Saraswati. This year, there were nearly fifty children participating in chanting the Saraswati bandana. They first practiced at home, learning how to coordinate with each other from an online virtual session, rehearsed at the temple basement together and then presented jointly at the temple hall in front of their parents and all the devotees present on the day.   Their presentation and smiles on their faces was mesmerizing to everyone. It was worth mentioning their discipline, their enthusiasm and their obedience to the Hindu rituals of going round (clockwise) to the deities at the temple, bowing to the deities and lining up as per the instructions of the volunteers to receive blessings from Pandit ji at the end before going back to the basement for Prasad launch.  NAC executive team are very proud of our children for their grand performance. All of us must be very happy to see them curious to learn the values found in the rituals and mantras of our culture. Given the opportunity, there is no doubt our children can learn things of values from a society beyond the formal education they receive at educational institutions. Such values are rarely taught at such places, and they rarely get a chance to know beyond the worldly ways to make a living from skills and knowledge learned from formal education. A huge thanks to all the volunteers and their hard work in conducting the program and explaining the meaning of Saraswati Bandana to the children. This event is a great success.
